Gardening Prep for Spring: Simple Ways to Get Your Garden Ready

Gardening Prep for Spring

Spring has officially arrived, making it the perfect time to step outside and start preparing your garden for the months ahead. A little effort now will set the foundation for a vibrant, thriving space you can enjoy all season long.

Refresh Your Garden Layout

Now that the days are getting longer, take a fresh look at your garden. Think about what you’d love to grow this year, whether that’s colourful flowers, homegrown vegetables, or a combination of both. Notice where the sun falls throughout the day and plan your planting around it, making the most of brighter spots and shaded corners.

Start Seeds Indoors

Early spring is ideal for getting seeds started. Herbs like basil, parsley and coriander can still thrive indoors on a sunny windowsill, while vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers and lettuces can be sown now to give them a strong head start before moving outdoors as temperatures rise.

Get Your Garden Spring-Ready

After the winter months, your garden may need a bit of a reset. Clear away any leftover debris, weeds or dead plants from beds and borders to create space for new growth. This is also a great time to check, clean and sharpen your tools so you’re ready for the busy gardening season ahead.

Prune, Feed and Tidy

Continue pruning shrubs and fruit trees where needed, removing any dead or damaged branches to encourage healthy growth. As plants begin to wake up, feeding them with a suitable fertiliser will give them the nutrients they need to flourish through spring and into summer.

Spring is all about new beginnings, and your garden is no exception. With a little preparation now, you’ll soon have a space full of colour, life and fresh produce to enjoy in the warmer months ahead.
