Great Big Green Week Goes Off with a Bang

eastbrooke homes Celebrate GreenFest Success!

eastbrooke homes were delighted to sponsor GreenFest 2025 in partnership with Wates on Father’s Day (15th June). Itchen Valley Country Park hosted this event to celebrate Great Big Green Week – the UK’s largest celebration of community action aimed at combating climate change and protecting nature.

GreenFest featured a variety of wildlife and conservation charities, local craftspeople, Bio Blitz ecology surveys, and numerous family activities, allowing everyone to participate in the eco-festivities.

Why did we get involved?

We couldn’t think of a better event to sponsor than GreenFest – and not just because The Lower Acre is a mile away from the park! The sustainability goals of Great Big Green Week, alongside the ecological efforts at the country park, aligned perfectly with our values.

The eastbrooke homes team was excited to share our biodiversity and sustainability practices, especially those happening at Horton Heath. We engaged in meaningful conversations with visitors, highlighting several initiatives, including:

  • Tree and wildflower planting
  • Bat houses
  • Mammal tunnels under road bridges
  • Wildlife ponds, home to great crested newts
  • The acre of green space (in the middle of The Lower Acre development)
  • Bird nesting boxes and our resident barn owl

“It’s great you’re carrying out all of this environmental work, it makes you stand out from other housebuilders”, one stall visitor commented.

Wildflower seed envelopes on a table at GreenFest

Our team donned purple butterfly headbands, reflecting The Lower Acre logo, of course! At our marketplace stall, we distributed packets of insect-friendly wildflower seeds to encourage attendees to attract more wildlife to their gardens. We loved hearing about the gardens of our visitors, many of whom had already incorporated wildflower sections and had areas where their children could grow their own plants. One of our seed envelopes even entertained a ladybird before the seeds were planted.

We sincerely thank Itchen Valley Country Park for allowing us to sponsor such a special and impactful event. We hope attendees left with the message that small actions can lead to significant improvements in the local environment.
