Our Neighbours in Nature: Butterflies

At eastbrooke homes, we care about the places we build and the nature that surrounds them. From thoughtfully landscaped green spaces to features that support local wildlife, we believe in creating communities where people and nature can live side by side.

This summer, Big Butterfly Count 2025 is taking place across the UK between 18th July and 10th August, offering everyone a chance to slow down, step outside and connect with the natural world. It’s a simple and meaningful activity that contributes to a much bigger picture.

See what we got up to:

Why It Matters

Following worrying results from last year’s count, Butterfly Conservation has warned of a butterfly emergency. With fewer butterflies being recorded across the country, the data collected this summer is more important than ever.

Butterflies are more than a pretty sight. They’re a vital part of our ecosystem, and their presence or absence tells us a lot about the health of the environment. Tracking their numbers helps conservationists understand what’s changing in our landscape and what needs protecting.

How to Take Part

Getting involved is quick and easy:

  1. Pick a spot: This could be your garden, a green space near your home or a local park.
  2. Watch for 15 minutes: Anytime between Friday 18th July and Sunday 10th August, spend just a quarter of an hour observing butterflies and moths.
  3. Identify and record: Use the free Big Butterfly Count app (iOS and Android) or the printable ID chart available from the Big Butterfly Count website to name the species you see and submit your results.
  4. Track the findings: You can explore the interactive map to see how everyone’s contributions are building a national picture.

How We’re Helping

Across our developments, we’ve included features like wildflower planting, bee bricks, bug hotels and pollinator-friendly spaces to welcome wildlife in. Whether it’s butterflies passing through your garden or bees nesting nearby, every small encounter is part of a much larger story.

Big Butterfly Count offers a great opportunity to be part of that story. It’s a quiet moment outdoors that helps support important conservation work.
