Growing a Greener Future at Knowle Park

Local organisations and community representatives came together at Knowle Park to support a tree planting initiative designed to enhance one of Fair Oak and Horton Heath’s most valued green spaces. The event was led by Regenerative Forestry and brought together members of the Parish Council, eastbrooke homes, Eastleigh Borough Council, professional landscapers and members of the construction team at The Lower Acre, all working collaboratively to invest in the area’s natural environment.

The day began with a member of Fair Oak and Horton Heath Parish Council sharing the history of Knowle Park, explaining how the land was once farmland before being formally handed over to the Parish Council around a decade ago. Since then, it has developed into an important space for the local community, offering a balance of recreation, nature and wellbeing.

Today, the park provides extensive green space alongside a playground, skatepark, allotments and the Parish Council building, making it a popular destination for residents of all ages. Located approximately one mile from The Lower Acre, the park plays an important role in connecting nearby neighbourhoods with accessible outdoor space.

The newly planted trees were added to the north east area of the park, helping to improve biodiversity and strengthen the natural landscape for years to come. A carefully selected mix of species was planted, including English oak, lime trees which are particularly beneficial for bees and other pollinators, crab apple and birch. Together, these species will provide seasonal interest while supporting local wildlife and contributing to a healthier ecosystem.

During the event, participants were also introduced to TreeApp, which allows users to identify different tree species, learn about their environmental benefits and track planting efforts. The app encourages greater understanding of the long term impact of tree planting and helps communities stay connected to local environmental projects.

The initiative highlights the positive impact of partnership working, bringing together the local authority, developers and community groups to create a lasting environmental legacy at Knowle Park for current and future residents to enjoy.
